Glossary
- Quarter-turn / cam lock
- A lock whose cam swings 90° behind the door frame when the insert or key is turned. The most common enclosure closure.
- Insert
- The shaped socket in a quarter-turn lock that the key or tool fits: double-bit, square, triangle or Allen, named by size in millimetres.
- Keyed alike
- Every lock in the range opens with the same key number, so one key serves a whole site or machine.
- Padlock device
- A hasp or eye built into the handle so a customer's own padlock secures it.
- Compression latch
- A latch that pulls the door inward during closing, compressing the gasket. Stated as a grip range on the drawing.
- Grip range
- The range of door-to-frame distance a compression latch can pull closed, for example 0–15 mm or 30–45 mm.
- Swing handle
- A handle that folds flat into its housing and drives rods to catches at the top and bottom of a tall door.
- Push-to-close
- A latch that engages when the door is pushed shut, without turning anything.
- Pinchweld
- A gasket with a metal-reinforced U-channel that grips the folded edge of a sheet-metal door or frame.
- Cut-out
- The hole to be cut in the door for the lock body, dimensioned on the drawing.
- Studs
- Threaded pins on the back of a hinge leaf for blind fixing from inside the door.
